You think of any two-digit number (e.g. 54), subtract the sum of its constituent digits (5 + 4 = 9, so 54 − 9 = 45), locate that number in the table, note its associated symbol, and click the black square to reveal your symbol. You can test it on our Mind Reading Game page.

No, it is pure mathematics. Any two-digit number can be written algebraically as 10a + b. Subtracting the sum of its digits (a + b) leaves 9a, which is always a multiple of 9. For starting numbers 10 to 99, the possible calculation results are strictly 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, and 81. All multiples of 9 on the board share the exact same symbol.

Each time you restart or generate the grid again, the application selects a brand new random symbol from our symbol pool for the multiples of 9, and re-scrambles all other decoy numbers. This creates the dynamic impression of a fresh mind reading every single round.

Yes! Write a prediction of your chosen symbol on a folded paper slip, prepare a list of numbers 1 to 90 where every multiple of 9 shares that symbol, and have your friend subtract their digits. When you unfold your slip, it will match their symbol 100% of the time.
